following listed places (e.g. artfairs, biennals, galleries) are showing examples where the subvision participants exhibited and definetly subsumed by the ordinary art market. that's in clear opposite to the explaination of spirit and targets bay the festival promotors - to support the (what ever they mean) OFF sector.

Nachfolgend erscheinen einige der teilnehmenden Künstlergruppen/initiativen, die durch die subvision PR als randständig beschrieben werden, um den "off"begriff zu rechtfertigen, den sie als USP ihres Festival penetriert.
Durch Listung der Ausstellungsplätze (zB. Kunstmessen, Biennalen, Galerien, Institutionen) sollte deutlich werden, dass es sich hier ebenso um kunstmarktrelevante Produktion geht und die unsaubere Festivalkommunikation das angesprochene Publikum wohl zum Narren halten will.

"Zeitgenössische Kunst und Schutz des öffentlichen Raums", (Bert Theis,Künstler und Gründer des Isola Art Center)

Es schien unverständlich, dass "Isola Art Center" an subvision teilnehmen wollen, wie es deren Name auf der Liste der teilnehmenden Projekte vermuten ließ. Schließlich treten sie offensiv und in Mailand ganz pragmatisch gegen den Verlust von Mitbestimmungsrechten in der Stadtplanung und den Entzug von öffentlichem Raum durch Investorenprojekte auf.

Folgende klärende Nachricht erreichte uns vom Isola Art Center:
"we got only one email from the curator (tim voss) about subvision on 25.03.08.
at that moment we had no time to study the project and we answered that we
would contact them later on. we then asked some friends from hamburg for more information
after what we decided not to take part. beeing part of such a project would be like participating in art events organized by the italian
promotor who wants to build on the isola gardens.
that's all we know about it, after our negative answer we never heard from them again.
thanks for sending us the list, we will ask that our name will be removed as soon as possible."

Das ist nicht der erste Fall, bei dem ein Name von der Liste genommen werden muss. von den 30 ehemalig Gelisteten (und noch immer im Enführungstext Quantifizierten) bleiben nun 20. Besonders deutsprachige angeblich zugesagte verschwanden, sodass zu vermuten ist, dass einige der z.T. nicht eurpäischen aufgeführten ebensowenig von ihrer Zusage wissen wie schon z.B. eben hier ISC.

Was wirft das für Schatten?

Wir stellen "Isola Art Center" dennoch oder gerade deshalb vor:

Das Zentrum ist eine von Künstlern gegründete Initiative, die sich im konkreten lokalen Zusammenhang mit Stadtentwicklungsprozessen auseinandersetzt und in einem Mailänder Vorort an einem konkreten Projekt unter Einbeziehung der nachbarschaftlichen Bevölkerung interveniert..
Durch Zusammenführung verschiedener Kräfte wie Stadtplaner, Architekten, Kulturschaffende, Handwerker und traditioneller Bevölkerung wurde die dem Abriss bestimmte Gegend der Isola Garibaldi mit einer neuen Nutzungsperspektive ausgestattet.

Das Isola Art Centre wurde vom aktuellen Diskurs institutioneller Kulturträger bereits weitreichend beachtet. Biennaleteilnahmen (z.B. Istanbul 2007), Einladungen zu Workshops und Referaten, bezeugen die Beispielhaftigkeit für Initiative "von unten" im Umfeld von Stadtentwicklung und Gentrifikationskontexten.

Ein Ausstellungsprojekt welches ursprünglich in einer Wohnung von Jason Dungan und Maria Zahle gegründet und veranstaltet wurde, nun vermehrt auch Projekte im Aussenraum und kooperativ mit anderen Initiativen zum Teil international zusammenarbeitet. Es wurden auch Projekte in Galerien (Moot Gallery, Limoncelli London) verwirklicht.
Neulich gab es eine Ausstellung unter Beteiligung des Hamburger Trottoir.
The Hex operieren nun nicht gerade versteckt.. das ICA London empfiehlt wärmstens den Besuch.

The Hex is a project space located in the spare room of a flat in the Pembury Estate, Clapton. Each show is a solo commission, with new work produced for the space. The artists can then invite others to take part, and they are free to use any part of the flat for their exhibition. During the course of the programme, the shows take place both within the flat and in the surrounding environs of the estate. The programme also features a number of offsite projects which have run concurrently with the main shows. Artist's projects featured at The Hex include Vanessa Billy with Alex Heim and Carl June, Charlotte Thrane and Anthea Hamilton, Sam Porritt and Tom Chamberlain, and Anne Lowe.

Seit einigen Jahren gab es in den kleinen Räumen diverse Ausstellungen verschiedener Künstler unterschiedlichsten Bekanntheitsgrades.
I-Cabin nahm schon an Kunstmessen (ZooArtfair) teil.

Schließlich klärt dieser Beitrag von Sebastian Graig vielleicht ein wenig die Frage warum gerade I-Cabin dabei sein sollten:

Artist-run spaces are an economic and managerial scenario based on absolute necessity.

I regularly contribute, on i-cabin's behalf, to the debate on current exhibition practice and I am often asked to comment on the notion of the artist-run space. It seems that the term is sometimes used as a substitute for a serious attempt at a worthwhile artistic agenda in that it acts as a synonym for 'alternative' or 'emerging'. In our increasingly lightweight creative culture the latter two terms read as inherently valuable in the search for the next big thing. Organisations believe that credibility can be gained by being seen to be, or to support, artist-run and emerging practices. I want to be clear that artist-run spaces, in many cases, fail to be any better than other galleries in nurturing artistic strategies of cultural importance and are not in themselves a sign of something important taking place. However, thanks to the research by Elena Serpotta, I am now beginning to remember that artist-run spaces are an economic and managerial scenario based on absolute necessity and artists' entrepreneurial drive to improve things for/by themselves. - Sebastian Craig
